Transparent method
How this calculator works
- Apply the selected provider percentage plus its fixed domestic online transaction fee.
- Solve algebraically for the gross charge required to receive an exact net amount.
- Multiply the per-transaction fee by monthly volume for monthly and annual estimates.
What the result does not include
- International cards, currency conversion, disputes, manual entry, instant payout, nonprofit, and custom-volume pricing are not included.
- Provider pricing changes; verify the linked pricing page before quoting a customer.
Common questions
Can I pass the fee to my client?
Surcharge rules depend on state law, card type, and network requirements, and they can change. Verify the current rules before adding a fee. Many businesses instead include payment costs in their overall pricing.
Why does the gross-up amount not equal amount plus fee?
Because the processor charges a percentage of the larger amount too. You have to solve for it rather than add the fee, which is why adding 2.9% leaves you slightly short.
